Story behind design
Crab lovers, and vegetarians look away! The inspiration behind this tasty little piece comes both from it's colour and....its taste.
In addition to it's gorgeous blue colouring, the other reason the blue swimmer crab would be such a delightful companion can be found in it's scientific name: Callinectes Sapidus, which literally translates to "savoury beautiful swimmer". The blue swimmer is amongst the worlds most harvested creatures. And with it's modified back legs (which I've carefully preserved in the design), this paddler traverses both deep and shallow waters in search of food.
Finally, why the gorgeous blue shell? Well turns out our little crab is a boy (mazel tov)! Only the boys sport these blue hues. Don't be sad for the female crab though - clutching her eggs to her chest, Jenny's (what female crabs are called) are protected from fishing across all Australian states, and in Queensland catching any female Blue Swimmer Crabs is prohibited.

This product is produced from an original design and is hand assembled, painted and finished. As a result, there may be slight variations from piece to piece, making each pair as special as their owner.
Products are wrapped in tissue paper and packaged in a DayNightDusk post box. If you are buying this product as a gift, a greeting card can be added to the order at check out.
